Look-ahead energy efficient VM allocation approach for data centers

Abstract Energy efficiency is an important issue for reducing environmental dissipation. efficient resource provisioning in cloud environments a challenging problem because of its dynamic nature and varied application workload characteristics. In the literature, live migration virtual machines (VMs) among servers commonly proposed to reduce energy consumption optimize usage, although it comes with essential drawbacks, such as cost performance degradation. addressed at data center level this research. A novel management algorithm virtualized centers that optimizes number meet requirements workloads without paper. The approach, named Look-ahead Efficient VM Allocation (LAA), contains Holt Winters-based prediction module. are inversely proportional. energy-performance trade-off relies on periodic comparisons predicted active numbers servers. To evaluate algorithm, experiments conducted real-world traces from Google Cluster. LAA compared best approach provided by CloudSim based called Local Regression-Minimum Migration Time (LR-MMT). experimental results show leads reduction up 45% complete one LR-MMT.
